When children begin to lie, it shows positive brain development.
In early childhood, lying reflect an important milestone in cognitive development. When children start to lie, it means they understand other people have different beliefs than they do. Developmentally children tell untruths between the ages 4-6yr, how we manage and support this determines whether this will continue at a rate that is a problem. More importantly, adults need to be aware that children will tell untruths because they are fearful of consequences or do not want to disappoint adults.
Social stories use words or images to explain specific occurrences or behaviour. A social story will need to be read to a young person regularly and certainly as a reflective tool (after the behaviour).
